An arson fire broke out on Sunday December 15, 2024, around 6 a.m., in front of the building at 14, rue du commerce, in the Trois-Cités district, in Poitiers. Five apartments, located above a scooter and shopping carts used to start the fire, were destroyed by the flames, despite the intervention of seventy firefighters.
A 75-year-old woman suffered respiratory tract burns
Nineteen residents involved were evacuated. Six people were injured in this disaster: a 75-year-old woman is in absolute emergency, with burns to her respiratory tract; three children and one adult are in relative emergency. All the injured were treated by two Samu teams in the emergency room of the Poitiers University Hospital.
Two trash fires lit
The other evacuees were taken care of at the Jacques-Brel school.
GRDF technicians cut off the gas. The Ekidom on-call team is studying rehousing solutions.
An investigation was opened by the Poitiers police station. Commissioner Alice David is on site, as well as the public prosecutor on duty and technicians from the scientific police. The fire at the bottom of this building was accompanied by two other trash fires on either side.
