Alliance of Civilizations: Morocco has made peace the central reactor of its leadership (Azoulay)

“Fort du Leadership de HM King Mohammed VIthe Morocco has never been so legitimate, so heard and listened to by the Community of Nations as it is today,” declared Mr. Azoulay in plenary session of the 10th Alliance of Civilizations Global Forumwhich opened in the presence of the Portuguese president, Marcelo Rebelo de Souzaof the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterresof King of Spain Felipe VIa you High Representative of theUNAOC, Miguel Angel Moratinos.

Speaking on the theme ”United in peace for another future”, the Councilor of HM the King noted that ”in a time and space where the deadly illusions of exclusion and denial of the other flourish, the Morocco embodies what the Alliance of Civilizations means to the world, listening to all stories and respecting the identity, history and spirituality of each person.

”What other country today can do so Morocco bring together thousands of Muslimsof Jews and of Christians who find themselves in land of Islam for the happiness of being together and to express their commitment to the universality of peace and the primacy of life,” he assured.

“It is a reality that the Morocco embodies, by remaining faithful to all the paradigms, to all the criteria which are those of a culture of peace nourished by the same justice and the same dignity for all,” added Mr. Azoulaywho was a member of the High Level group set up more than twenty years ago by the United Nations to create the Alliance of Civilizations.

“It was at a time when the breviary of the community of nations was being broken into. wicked theories of the shock of our religions, our histories and our civilizations,” he recalled.

And to note that if the situation the world was experiencing twenty years ago was worrying, that of today is even more serious. “We have all gone backwards, the world has gone backwards,” lamented Mr. Azoulayemphasizing that “the world today accommodates itself too easily to a current situation made up of archaisms and regressions that we wrongly believed to be definitively over”.

“The time has come for us to take the proper measure of the current situation which requires more than ever that the system of United Nations remains the space in which the world must find reason and restore its chances to the universality of peace which is the most fragile, the most central and the most modern achievement of our civilizations,” he argued.

In this perspective, he recalled that the resolution voted by the UN General Assembly to create the Alliance of Civilizations has outlined in a “clear and precise manner the road map for our societies to give chances to a just and definitive peace between Palestinians et Israelis”, emphasizing “the coherence and constancy of the policy implemented by Morocco, which has always made a solution of two States equal in rights, dignity, justice and freedom, its credo, to restore its chances for peace.
