A sentence enforcement judge denounces the conditions of detention of repeat robber Rédoine Faïd and orders the prison administration to remedy them, franceinfo learned on Monday, November 18 from consistent sources, confirming information from the AFP. Rédoine Faïd was heard on Wednesday November 13 by the sentence enforcement judge. He is incarcerated at the Vendin-le-Vieil penitentiary center (Pas-de-Calais). His end date of sentence is currently set at 2057. Requested by franceinfo, the Béthune prosecutor indicates that he is appealing this decision.
In the order that franceinfo was able to consult, the sentence enforcement judge considers that certain conditions of detention of the robber are “contrary to the dignity of the human person”, notably his placement in solitary confinement. “These conditions have a real impact on the mental and psychological health of the detainee, which requires long-term treatment and the consequences of which risk becoming irremediable,” is it written in the order.
For the judge, “the sensory isolation described is real, since telephone conversations only mobilize one sense and relationships with professionals cannot be described as social relationships. Senses such as sight, taste, smell and touch are limited due to the configuration of the premises available to the detainee”, can we read in the order.
The magistrate insists that “since 2018 and his return from escape, i.e. for more than six years, these detention conditions have hardly changed, with the exception of the lifting of handcuffing within the isolation unit.. In addition to his placement in solitary confinement, the sentence enforcement judge recalls that Rédoine Faïd's visiting rooms can only be carried out with a hygiaphone and that he does not have the family life unit. “for more than six years”. For this judge, “the situation of the detainee as a whole must be taken into account in order to put in place a road map tending towards the end of solitary confinement and thus to give prospects to the detainee Rédoine Faïd.”
