Walid Regragui said the match against Gabon, won Friday by a wide score of 5-1 in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, was not easy despite the impressive result.
At the press conference following the match, Regragui explained that the magnificent goal scored by Gabon at the start of the match forced the national team to reorganize their plans very quickly, which allowed the players to show a positive reaction that ‘he greeted.
He stressed that Gabon are a tough opponent who exerted strong pressure from the start and managed to score. However, the Moroccan team needed time to find their feet, particularly defensively with the return of Noussair Mazraoui on the left side. It was also important, according to him, to give playing time to the defensive pair made up of Jamal Harkass and Nayef Aguerd so that they develop more automatisms.
“I congratulate the players for their good reaction and their exploitation of the set pieces on which we worked a lot, and which bore fruit, as shown by the goals scored in this match,” he added.
Regragui also indicated that the changes made during the match strengthened the team and contributed to the scoring of several goals, affirming that this victory was the result of a collective effort. “It’s a good result, but we have to continue working to achieve our goals,” he concluded.
As a reminder, the Moroccan national team will close the CAN 2025 qualifiers, organized in Morocco, with a match against Lesotho next Monday at the Oujda municipal stadium.
