An estimate of charging time with AI for iPhone

Apple plans to deploy a new feature eagerly awaited by iPhone users: a precise estimate of charging time. Inspired by features already present on macOS and Windows, this innovation could appear with the iOS 18.2 update.

iPhone owners have long asked for an estimate of how long it takes to charge their device, something that Android phones have offered for years. With iOS 18.2, Apple is finally preparing to meet this expectation.

The new framework, called “BatteryIntelligence”, will allow iPhones to accurately calculate the remaining charge time. Based on parameters such as charger type, electrical power and battery status, AI will be able to provide optimized estimates.

A useful feature: users will even receive notifications specifying the time required to reach 80% charge, a valuable time saver for those on the move.

This initiative is part of Apple’s strategy to enrich the user experience with artificial intelligence. After introducing battery management improvements in iOS 18, such as automatic charging limitation to 80%, Apple is continuing this momentum.

The iOS 18.2 update, expected in early December, will also bring other innovations, such as the integration of ChatGPT, Genmoji, and Image Playground. These new features will first be accessible on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16.

With this announcement, Apple proves that it is finally listening to the expectations of its users. After years of minimalism in terms of contextual information, the brand seems ready to offer more informative and practical tools.

The functionality remains in the testing phase for the moment and is only available to developers in beta 2 of iOS 18.2. Users will have to wait a little longer before discovering this promising advancement.
