The Extreme Cold Plan activated in Wallonia until March 31
Wallonia activated its Extreme Cold Plan on November 1, when temperatures began to cool significantly after a relatively mild October. It will be in effect until March 31. The budget allocated to it is 564,000 euros, we learned on Friday from the SPW Interior and Social Action.

The objective of the Extreme Cold Plan is to ensure care for the most vulnerable people when climatic conditions are particularly harsh. It consists of mobilizing the maximum number of local public and associative resources, already present and active on the ground, to provide the most appropriate response during this acute and particularly difficult period for people in precarious situations or living on the street, it is explained. at the SPW.
Action on the ground is organized around the seven social relays in Wallonia, in Charleroi, La Louvière, Liège, Mons, Namur, Tournai and Verviers, and which are subsidized by the regional administration. Each of them must provide for the organization of continuous reception (7 days a week and 24 hours a day) for the homeless, unconditional reception during the duration of the plan (there cannot be quotas as during the rest of the year) and the provision of basic amenities for the homeless, such as soup, heating or blankets. Solutions must also be put in place if it appears that there is a lack of available reception places.
This work of the seven urban social relays is done in partnership with cities and towns, several of which have recently announced the activation of their local Extreme Cold Plan, such as La Louvière, Mons or Namur. Each of them then co-finances the measures put in place.
