Adji Mergane Kanouté announced his joining the Pastef party in view of the early legislative elections of November 17. This decision fuels discussions in the country, arousing citizens’ astonishment at this change of political camp.
Like Déthié Fall, she chose to vote against the list on which she was initially registered, namely the 24th position on Takku Wallu Senegaal, led by Macky Sall. Kanouté justifies her choice by the nomination of Alla Kane, whom she considers a father to her, as well as by her unfavorable rank on the Takku list.
Although her political weight is considered limited, particularly in her region of Kaolack, her departure from the Benno coalition, of which she was a fervent supporter, creates a shock wave. She notably formed a duo with Abdou Mbow to defend the postponement of the presidential election decided by Macky Sall, a position that was then unpopular.
After this period, she again supported Mbow against Ousmane Sonko, during the controversy over the General Political Declaration. This collaboration ended with the dissolution of the National Assembly and the calling of early elections this year.
