Geneviève Guilbault wants changes to save $350 million in transport companies

The Minister of Transport, Geneviève Guilbault, said she was “satisfied” on Friday with the report issued showing that transport companies could save $350 million per year.

“It’s not normal that it costs more and more and that people never feel like they’re getting value for their money,” she explained to Mario Dumont.

The Deputy Prime Minister appeals to “find flexibility once and for all”.

The report produced by the firm Raymond Chabot Grant Thornton, which issues nearly a hundred recommendations, emphasizes that subcontracting and reviewing collective agreements would be solutions to reduce expenses.

There are “structural deficits”, according to Mme Guilbault, and transport companies must work closely with the government in order to make annual savings.

“It takes a certain courage on the part of transport companies,” admits Mme Guilbault on LCN.

It still remains that “a clear portrait” of the situation was needed, she believes.

Geneviève Guilbault assures that the publication of the report is “the beginning of an exercise”.
