This morning, the Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar (UCAD) plunged into chaos as violent clashes broke out between students and law enforcement. Tear gas canisters invaded the campus, making the air unbreathable, and many injured students struggled to access medical care.
The UCAD Friends Collective, representing students, demands urgent improvements in their living conditions: immediate reopening of all university restaurants, supply of the medical service with emergency medications, rehabilitation of the football field for training activities. relaxation, and the provision of buses for students residing at Amadou Mahtar Mbow University (UAM).
Faced with a blockade of their demands, the students are expressing their fed up and warning of a situation which could worsen if the authorities do not act quickly. These growing tensions at UCAD reflect a deeper unease among Senegalese youth towards the persistent challenges of the education sector.
