The Council of State ignored the risk of conflict of interest between the vice-president of HUG and her husband

The Council of State appoints the members of the boards of directors of public establishments. Last year, he gave the green light, on the proposal of Pierre Maudet, supervising minister of Geneva University Hospitals (HUG), to the candidacy of Caroline Kant, founder and director of the EspeRare Foundation, dedicated to research and to the development of new therapeutic solutions. Eight months after taking office on the board of directors as vice-president of the HUG, of which she is expected to take over as president next year, Caroline Kant is forced to recuse herself during discussions concerning the budget and finances of the institution. She made this known to her colleagues in an email dated September 30, as Time he wrote on Tuesday November 5.

This situation is due to her marital status: she is married to the administrative and financial director of the Cantonal Health Office (OCS). Her husband works under the leadership of Pierre Maudet, State Councilor in charge of the Department of Health and Mobility (DSM), which oversees the public hospital.
