The Citi Foundation recently announced the winners of its 2024 Global Innovation Challenge, a program aimed at encouraging innovative solutions to housing insecurity. Among the 50 community organizations selected from around the world, the Moroccan NGO Jood stands out for its initiatives in the field of housing. With a collective $25 million in funding, these organizations will have the resources to respond to this pressing global challenge.
In Morocco, the devastating earthquake of September 2023 caused thousands of human losses and destroyed hundreds of villages in the Al Haouz region, seriously affecting infrastructure and homes. In the face of this disaster, local authorities, the private sector and civil society organizations, like Jood, have shown remarkable resilience, joining forces to rebuild affected areas.
In this context, the NGO Jood will be able, thanks to the financial support of the Citi Foundation, to continue to support affected families in a lasting manner. This project will notably provide permanent housing solutions and improve local infrastructure in the Al Haouz region, including hygiene facilities and the creation of new employment opportunities for young people. Reconstruction efforts target 22 villages in the rural areas of Ouirgane and Imgdal, allowing 197 people to benefit from long-term housing.

This initiative reflects the Citi Foundation’s commitment to supporting these communities as they rebuild. Every action counts, and together we can make lasting, positive change. »
Ms. Hind Laidi, President of Jood Association, also expressed her gratitude to the Citi Foundation. “We have the opportunity to transform a tragedy into a model of sustainable reconstruction. By offering ecological and sustainable housing solutions, while creating local economic opportunities, we are helping to rebuild a stronger and more autonomous community,” she stressed. She added that this holistic approach helps strengthen the dignity of beneficiaries and build the foundations for lasting resilience.
As part of the Global Innovation Challenge, the funded programs will be deployed over two years. The Jood association will benefit from access to a learning network organized by IDEO.org, an organization specializing in the design of products and services for social impact. This network will allow beneficiaries to exchange good practices and share their experiences for innovative solutions adapted to each context.
