We worry, we panic, we don't want to believe it… The Americans can't do this to us. This great democracy cannot elect Donald Trump, this fascistic clown, this vulgarity, this crude, immature billionaire, this convict who has exploded all forms of political propriety, sent to waltz all the codes of public life. The Trumpian functioning, the reaction, or rather the absence of reaction of the Republican electorate to the repeated provocations of the orange candidate, seem very strange to us.
And yet, let us observe our political debate: we will find there real pieces of Trumpism, the emergence of this drift that political science does not yet know how to qualify, between new fascism, populism, generalized disintegration of all collective rationality. We are not, far from it, at the American level of decline of public speech and polarization, but Trumpism is progressing in a worrying manner in Europe and in France.
