“The Great Cold Plan mobilizes the maximum number of local public and associative resources, already present and active on the ground, to provide the most appropriate response possible during this particularly difficult period for people in precarious situations or living on the street. The Great Cold Plan is coordinated by the Relais Social de Mons-Borinage and implemented by the CPAS and City services as well as the associative world. specifies the City’s communications department in a press release.
Looking for interns, the non-profit organization Le Quinquet in Soignies fears for the future: “it’s becoming difficult to recruit”
The CPAS night shelter plans to increase the number of places available. “Its reception capacity will reach a total of 36 places including 28 places for men, 8 places for women and accommodation specially adapted to accommodate up to 3 people with their dog.” The public concerned will be able to eat with, among other things, hot soup, and wash there between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m., each day. “Every morning, the night shelter also offers breakfast. Finally, support with a social worker is offered every day from 8 a.m. Medical care is provided by nurses present on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m..”
The day shelter will also be available to bring “essential support since no less than 35 reception places are available at the same time (pets accepted) with access to showers and toilets from the opening, a free breakfast, a free soup at lunchtime and the possibility of a meal hot in the evening for only €0.50.” A medical service associated with the NGO Médecins du Monde is offered free of charge on Wednesday mornings.

Food aid, medical care, support in terms of personal hygiene and clothing donations are also provided by local associations. Marauders will go to meet people who have not come directly to the day shelter, located at the Chemin de la procession, on the edge of Nimy.
Vigilance will also be activated regarding elderly and/or isolated people. A monitoring system will be initiated by the department in charge of the City’s Social Cohesion Plan. “Concretely, social workers from Mons Citizens’ Houses establish regular telephone contact with citizens registered in the municipal register of isolated people. These calls aim to pay them special attention. Depending on social situations and identified needs, social workers can also relay requests to local actors.”
