The services of the Ministry of the Interior, under the aegis of walis and governors, have intensified their efforts to put an end to the misuse of ambulances by certain presidents of local councils and elected officials, diverting these vehicles for electoral purposes to the detriment of the health of citizens.
Investigations across prefectures and provinces have revealed a worrying trend: several presidents are exploiting ambulances to promote their political interests, disregarding the basic needs of the population. Thus, elected officials have filed complaints, reporting that citizens, because of their opposition to the current president, are being deprived of access to ambulance transport.
In addition, testimonies report situations where certain presidents force citizens to pay the cost of fuel to benefit from the ambulance, while those close to their majority escape this obligation. This practice creates unacceptable inequality in access to an essential public service, causing additional financial burdens for communities, while circulars clearly stipulate that each patient must bear the cost of fuel, which calls for an in-depth investigation.
According to information obtained by Hespressit appears that some presidents, especially those who are also deputies or aspire to run in the next legislative elections, take advantage of this situation to achieve electoral objectives. The latter do not hesitate to attract citizens in various neighboring communities by using ambulances as campaign tools.
Hespress also reports that presidents of municipalities, particularly in the vicinity of Casablanca, exploit these vehicles to enter other territories in order to transport patients, or even to use ambulances for remains, sparking indignation among their counterparts . These inappropriate behaviors raise major concerns about the dignity and equality of services offered to all.
In addition, it was noted that some ambulances transport patients to private clinics, abandoning public hospitals, and wait with them until their medical examinations are completed. This causes significant delays for other patients waiting for care.
Faced with this situation, Hespress sources report that certain prefectural services are considering the implementation of a GPS ambulance tracking system, because presidents inform citizens unfavorable to their policy that they have taken care of other patients .
Recently, the governor of Médiouna province took decisive action, giving strict instructions to elected officials to ensure that all citizens benefit from this service equitably. It was stressed, according to newspaper sources, that abuse of this kind will no longer be tolerated. The governor warned that the persistence of such offenses could lead to the withdrawal of this service from local authorities and its transfer to civil protection, in coordination with local authorities, in order to ensure transparent and equitable management of resources.
