UNAIDS appoints artist OUM as goodwill ambassador in Morocco | APAnews

As a Goodwill Ambassador, OUM will raise awareness for collective action to ensure access to care and support for all people affected by HIV.

On the sidelines of the Taragalte Festival, which takes place from November 1 to 3, 2024 in Mhamid El Ghizlane, the Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) announced the appointment of the internationally renowned Moroccan artist OUM as National Ambassador of goodwill in Morocco. This appointment, made during an event of which OUM is the sponsor, marks an important step in cultural mobilization in favor of the fight against HIV/AIDS.

Houssine El Rhilani, UNAIDS Country Director for Morocco, highlighted the importance of this partnership: “ The appointment of OUM as National Goodwill Ambassador is a major step forward in our efforts to fight HIV in Morocco. His artistic influence and commitment to social causes will help amplify our messages of prevention, tolerance and support for people living with HIV. »

With this new responsibility, OUM is committed to promoting awareness and education around HIV prevention, while actively combating the stigma and discrimination that affects people living with the virus. “ As an artist, I have a platform that allows me to reach a large audience. It is my duty to use my voice to advocate for people affected by HIV, who often remain marginalized “, said OUM. She says she is honored to take part in this mission and determined to contribute to UNAIDS’ efforts in Morocco.

OUM is not its first commitment to social change. A committed artist, she has already collaborated with various United Nations agencies and participated in initiatives to promote women’s rights and education. The ceremony of his appointment, organized in the presence of local leaders, representatives of the Zagora region and the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, illustrated his deep commitment to raising public awareness of issues related to HIV in Morocco. The framework of the Taragalte Festival, celebrating Moroccan cultural wealth, offers a powerful echo to the influence of music and art in the promotion of peace and social progress.
