Cereals, eggs, croissants… When you have breakfast, there is a good chance that you eat more or less the same thing. However, this is not necessarily good. Researchers at the University of Waterloo in Canada found that women and men should eat a different breakfast.
As part of this study, published in the specialist journal “Computers in Biology and Medicine”, the team of researchers developed a computer model. It was based on data from several experiments in which men and women were served a different breakfast each time, with amounts of fat ranging from 17 to 45 grams and amounts of carbohydrates ranging between 58 and 289 grams.
Women are more likely to store fat than men, but they also burn it more quickly to transform it into energy. Carbohydrates, on the other hand, are a better source of energy for men. This is explained by the differences in metabolism between the two sexes.
Scrambled eggs provide protein and good fat.
Avocado is rich in unsaturated fatty acids, fiber and vitamins.
Salmon is rich in omega 3 which has an anti-inflammatory effect.
Chia seeds contain omega 3, fiber and protein.
Yogurt or its coconut-based plant-based alternatives, for example, contain good fat.
Oatmeal is a great source of complex carbohydrates. They can be eaten with fruits and nuts or as unsweetened muesli.
Wholemeal bread is rich in fiber and carbohydrates.
Whole wheat pancakes are a healthy alternative to white flour pancakes and are higher in fiber.
The researchers note that they had significantly more data on men than on women. There is therefore an urgent need for more in-depth research into women’s metabolism so that even more relevant nutritional recommendations can be made in the future.
