UNITED STATES – A forced breakup. Democrat Kamala Harris promised on the conservative channel FoxNews this Wednesday, October 16 that her mandate would not be “a continuation” of that Joe Biden if she was elected president of the United States in 20 days, on November 5.

The vice-president’s interview was eagerly awaited. In the middle of a media tour to convince as many voters as possible a few days before the presidential election, Kamala Harris was criticized for only going to relatively favorable environments and never to hostile terrain.

This Wednesday, she went to Donald Trump’s favorite channel to impose a new speech for the millions of conservative viewers who are fans of FoxNews. She was notably questioned on immigration and on Donald Trump, but also on Joe Biden.

“A new generation of leaders”

The latter withdrew from the presidential race last July, too cognitively and politically weakened to continue. Asked about the mental health of Joe Biden, who seems to have more difficulty expressing himself and moving in recent months, Kamala Harris kicked in.

But she was also forced to announce a break with this unpopular president who is definitely a pebble in her shoe. “Like every new leader who takes office, I will bring my experience, my professional experiences and new ideas”said the Democratic candidate.

As you can hear below, she promised that she aims to “represent(s) a new generation of leaders”. The vice president will celebrate her 60th birthday on Sunday. Donald Trump has 78, Joe Biden 81.

To show the breakup, she emphasized that she had not “spent the majority of his career in Washington”unlike Joe Biden who was elected senator in 1973 at the age of 30. Kamala Harris made a career as a prosecutor in California, rather far from the mysteries of federal power.

She also assured that she wanted to discuss with her political opponents, stressing that she had been in discussion with anti-Trump Republicans just before this interview. Kamala Harris also promised a few days earlier that she would have Republicans in her administration, proof of her openness.

Harris ‘charts his own path’

Her statement may nevertheless be surprising, since until now she had not really dared to cut the cord. On ABC a week earlier, for example, she was asked what she would have done differently from Joe Biden during the latter’s mandate. His response: “There’s nothing that comes to mind. »

The potential consequences of this little sentence pushed Kamala Harris to review her strategy. Because for Republicans and even certain undecided voters, Joe Biden seems like a scarecrow. The president, who supports Kamala Harris in her efforts to conquer the White House, has also adjusted his speech so as not to involve his vice-president in his own contested record.

Thus, during a trip to Pennsylvania, a key state for the presidential election, he tried to maintain a certain distance between himself and his potential successor, reports the New York Times. “I was loyal to Barack Obama [Biden a été le vice-président d’Obama entre 2008 et 2016, ndlr]but I have forged my own path as president. This is what Kamala is going to do. She has been loyal so far, but she must forge her own path,” he declared.
