Thermometers in and around Los Angeles continue to show scorching temperatures, reaching 48°C in some places. And the night offers little respite, with temperatures not dropping below 32°C.
Temperatures continued to reach dangerous levels in California and the U.S. Southwest on Thursday, with no signs of a lull in the weather forecast for several days, the weather service said. The heat warning was extended for the upcoming weekend, while the risk of wildfires was also heightened.
“All warnings are red for what will be a period of dangerously hot weather through the weekend, and continuing into next week in some areas.”warned the American weather service (NWS). “Do not undertake any hiking or other physical activity except very early in the day, and even then, exercise extreme caution and stay well hydrated.”they advised.

Thermometers in and around Los Angeles continue to show scorching temperatures, reaching 48°C in some places. And the night offers little respite, with temperatures not dropping below 32°C.
The NWS also issued a “red warning flag” for rural areas around Los Angeles, where heat and low humidity create a cocktail that promotes rapid wildfire spread. Heatwaves in the largely desert southwest are not uncommon this time of year. But scientists say repeated heatwaves are a clear indicator of global warming, and these heatwaves are likely to become more frequent, longer and more intense.
