US prosecutes two executives of Russian media outlet RT, seizes 32 Internet domain names linked to Russia

They are accused of attempting to influence the 2024 US presidential election, the campaign for which is in full swing. US Attorney General Merrick Garland announced on Wednesday, September 4, the prosecution of two executives of the Russian media outlet RT and the seizure of 32 Internet domain names linked to Russia.

The two RT executives are also on a sanctions list published by the US Treasury Department on Wednesday. The sanctions concern a total of ten individuals and two entities, it said in a statement, including executives from the group “Pro-Kremlin hackers” RaHDit, as well as the NGO Dialog, accused by the American authorities of using artificial intelligence in disinformation campaigns “used against election campaigns” in the United States.

In addition to these prosecutions, “The Department of Justice has seized 32 Internet domain names used by the Russian government and Russian state-sponsored actors to engage in a clandestine campaign to interfere in our country’s elections and influence their outcome.”Mr. Garland said at a news conference.
