Four family members died in the attack in western Ukraine. The father is the only survivor.
Four members of the same family lost their lives on Wednesday, September 4, in Russian missile attacks on Lviv, in western Ukraine, leaving the father the sole survivor, Ukrainian authorities announced. This attack left seven dead and more than thirty injured, the day after a particularly bloody strike on a military institute in Poltava, in the center of the country. “Only the man in this photo survived today’s attack. His wife Yevgenia and three daughters, Iaryna, Daryna and Emilia, were killed in their home.”Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovy said on Telegram.
He attached to his message a photo showing the smiling family, holding sunflowers, with the father, Yaroslav Bazylevych, in the middle of his wife and three daughters, aged 21, 18 and seven. According to the mayor of Lviv, Yaroslav, the eldest, worked at the city hall. “Russia is killing Ukrainians and their families”he denounced.
Appeals to the West
Many Ukrainian officials have responded to the family’s disappearance, calling on kyiv’s Western allies to provide more help. “How many more families will be killed before Ukraine has all the means and decisions required to destroy the Russian war machine?”launched the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on X. “Russia is killing Ukrainian families, our children, our future”added the Ministry of Defense, assuring that “Russian terror must be stopped by modern air defense systems”.
For months, kyiv has been asking for new means to protect its cities from Russian bombing and to be able to strike deep into Russian soil with the long-range missiles that have been supplied to it by the West. Several Western countries, including the United States, refuse to authorize such strikes, fearing an escalation with Moscow.
