Drivers who have cars with the diesel engine 1.5 BlueHDI will soon be able to blow a little thanks to an extended compensation program. Stellantis has decided to create a platform to compensate those who have had technical problems. This initiative is there to appease tensions and regain customer confidence (and it’s not nothing!). This follows the many complaints of motorists annoyed by mechanical breakdowns and non -covered repair costs.

What is wrong with the hood?

The main concern comes from a somewhat weak chain connecting camshafts. Only 7 mm Width, this chain wears out too quickly, causing bizarre noises and even risking breaking (it’s still reassuring). A specialized site explains: “With a width of 7 mm, this chain could wear out prematurely, take game and end up breaking – while, in theory, no intervention is to be expected on such an element”. Stellantis confirmed that these dysfunctions could lead to engine breakage.

How to be reimbursed?

Stellantis does not do in half measures: they have opened a platform accessible here to request a reimbursement of expenses between the 1ᵉʳ January 2022 and the 18 mars 2024. The “Que Choisir” site also shared this useful information.

To hope to reach a refund, there are four conditions to respect:

  • The incident must have occurred between the 1ᵉʳ January 2022 and the 18 mars 2024.
  • The car must have the extension of the warranty (10 years/175,000 km).
  • Interviews must follow the manufacturer’s recommendations with three last invoices in your pocket (and a slight delay tolerated).
  • Repairs must be done in the stellantis approved network.

What other seeds are covered?

In addition to diesel engines 1.5 BlueHDIStellantis also takes care of the problems on certain PureTech engines. If you have an engine 1.0 or 1.2 Puretechhere is what is covered:

  • Engine distribution belt problem 1.0/1.2 Atmospheric puretech Product between June 2012 and June 2022.
  • Same problem on engine 1.2 PureTech Turbo Product from April 2014 to June 2022.
  • Oil overconsumption due to a problem of piston segmentation on engine 1.2 PureTech before Euro 6.2produced between April 2014 and July 2018.
  • Oil overconsumption linked to a defective oil separator on an engine 1.2 Puretech EURO 6.2produced between February 2018 and February 2023.

But everything is not rosy …

Even if this approach is seen as a good step forward to solve these problems, some criticisms persist towards Stellantis (like what you can never satisfy everyone!). There is no reimbursement provided for the additional drawbacks such as loss of use or rental of a replacement vehicle. In addition, some find the period eligible too short.

-

In short, even if Stellantis says that many problems have already been resolved, this new platform is an important step to settle current disputes with these defective engines. Motorists are therefore encouraged to check their eligibility to take advantage of the compensation offered and thus lighten their portfolio in the face of these unpleasant mechanical unforeseen events.
