In a telephone interview this Sunday, January 26, the President of the Republic called on the Israeli Prime Minister for the Jewish State to respect the ceasefire agreement concluded on November 27.

Israel, however, announced Friday that the withdrawal operation would continue beyond this deadline, saying that the agreement “has not been fully accomplished by Lebanon.”

This Sunday, hundreds of residents of southern Lebanon defied the Israeli army and tried to return to their villages while some are still occupied by Israeli forces. They opened fire in their direction and 15 people were killed, according to the Lebanese authorities.
