This Friday, January 24, the firefighters intervened in the Auchan of to capture a harmless snake which was in the canned department.

Small moment of panic this Friday, January 24, in Calais. Around 9:30 am, firefighters intervened to capture a snake, which was in the preserves of Auchan. This Elaphe Guttata, also called “wheat snake” is not dangerous and measures only 40 cm. Its presence can however largely surprise customers doing their shopping.

The capture was quickly reported north coast, and the animal was entrusted to the pet store in the Auchan shopping mall.

“It is a harmless snake, originally from the southeast of the United States. He is hungry for the moment,” said Jean-François, the manager of this pet store. “He eats frozen mice. I am amazed that he resists because he needs heat.”

A reptile that lives warm

The manager of the animal store remembers having recovered an identical reptile for ten days before. “The workers found one by cutting the trees right in front of Auchan. I had explained to the gentleman how to deal with it and feed him and he had kept it. I was surprised that he was alive, because he was freezing this day, “he told our colleagues.

For him, it is impossible to know what the snake did there. “A person has let his snake escape? Or else get rid of young people? It is difficult to explain, especially since this snake does not live in the cold,” wonders the specialist.

The captured snake was finally able to be recovered by Ludwig Zoonekynd, president of the Nature Park of the Guînes Marais, specifies Littoral.
