The American giant Meta denied on social networks having forced Facebook and Instagram users to follow accounts of the new Trump administration without their agreement, as many of them complained.

In a message posted on X and Threads, Andy Stone, Meta spokesperson, explained that “people have not automatically followed the official Facebook or Instagram accounts of the president, the vice-president or the first lady. These accounts are managed by the White House and, with a new administration, the content of these pages changes ”.
According to him, “it is the same procedure as that followed during the last presidential transition”.
Since the return of Donald Trump to the White House on Monday, Facebook and Instagram users, social networks belonging to Meta, said they had found themselves following the accounts of the new American president, of his wife Melania Trump Or the vice-president JD Vance, without having subscribed to it.
-They also reported difficulty in unsubscribing from these accounts.
“It is possible that the requests for follow-up and unsubscribe take some time to be processed, because these accounts change hands,” assured Meta spokesperson.
These accusations arise as Mark Zuckerberg, the boss of Meta, has multiplied the gestures of rapprochement with the new American president since his electoral victory in early November.
The leader of the social network, present at the inauguration ceremony on Monday, notably dined with Donald Trump, appointed several of his allies to key positions and ended programs (such as the fight against disinformation in the United States) very criticized by the conservatives.
