On January 14, OM hosted LOSC for the round of 16 of the competition. After Luis Henrique's equalizer for the Phocaeans at the end of added time, Olivier Letang and Medhi Benatia made the end of the match worse, following altercations with the refereeing body. The sanctions fell for both men.
They were expected, they finally fell. The sanctions against the Marseille Football director Medhi Benatia and the Lille president Olivier Létang were pronounced this Thursday by the FFF, after the altercations which took place between the two men and the refereeing body on Tuesday January 14 during the meeting pitting OM against LOSC in the round of 16 of the Coupe de France.
The Team reveals that the disciplinary committee of the French Football Federation has decided to suspend the main parties concerned as a precautionary measure. The latter will therefore have to go before this same disciplinary committee, in order to know the final duration of their sentence. A matter which we are not yet ready to see the end of.
At the microphone of BeIN Sports after the meeting, Medhi Benatia explained these altercations. The former Moroccan international, after Luis Henrique's equalizer for the current second in Ligue 1 at the end of added time, had been criticized by the referee for a penalty not whistled for his team a few minutes earlier.
-“This evening, what I just experienced is serious. We score, I go to see the fourth referee to tell him there was a penalty. In passing, I remove my coach who is arguing with Olivier Létang. Clément Turpin arrives from 50 meters, the fourth referee tells me: “You pointed at me and threatened me”, declared the former defender, who may not appreciate the sanction handed down to him.
