Billionaire Elon Musk is a “psychopath”, launched Thursday the co-spokesperson of Québec solidaire (QS), Ruba Ghazal, nevertheless refusing to leave his social network X until the media does the same.

“We’re all a little caught up in it, and my biggest wish is that we stop being [sur le réseau X] because of this psychopathic multi-billionaire Elon Musk,” she said at the opening of her party’s caucus, in anticipation of the return to parliament on January 28.

Like the Quebec media and other political parties, Québec solidaire is still active on X, especially for “practical-practical” reasons, which allow it to reach journalists quickly and easily. But “I tell you: the media are no longer on this, we are leaving [X] ! » committed Mme Ghazal.

Elected officials from the Coalition Avenir Québec and the Liberal Party of Quebec are also considering this social network, bought by Elon Musk in April 2022. The Parti Québécois stands apart by saying it has no thoughts on the subject of ability to leave X or Meta’s social networks, such as Facebook and Instagram.

Very close to American President Donald Trump, Elon Musk is, these days, at the heart of a controversy due to a controversial greeting.

A “pinch in the heart” for Bouazzi

Mme Ghazal also says he wants to give “new life to his party”. She notably announced a new distribution of files within her caucus, which has undertaken a “step” (which has not been specified) to regain its unity.

The deputy for Maurice-Richard, Haroun Bouazzi, entangled before the holidays in a controversy over racism in the National Assembly, is notably relieved of his role as spokesperson on finance and the economy. These questions will now be the responsibility of Alejandra Zaga Mendez.

Mr. Bouazzi said he welcomed this decision with a “pinch in his heart”, without however seeing it as punishment for his actions in the fall. “It really wasn’t presented to me like that and I don’t take it like that,” he said.

The Coalition Avenir Québec, the Liberal Party of Quebec and the Parti Québécois tabled motions in November to dissociate themselves from or denounce the comments of Mr. Bouazzi, who said he saw “every day” in the National Assembly comments “targeting to construct the Other – North African, Muslim, black, indigenous – and their culture which, by definition, would be dangerous or inferior.” The CAQ motion, which demanded an apology from the MP, was blocked, while the other two were adopted.

Haroun Bouazzi said he found this episode “very violent”, difficult for his mental health and for his family. He said he was ready to turn the page. The elected official, who keeps energy and cybersecurity files, inherits those related to infrastructure, natural resources and forests.

The party’s co-spokeswoman, Ruba Ghazal, also announced that Guillaume Cliche-Rivard will succeed Alexandre Leduc as parliamentary leader of the party. Mr. Leduc inherits the environment file.
