The Group of actors in the agri-food industry sector of Touba (RASIAT) pleaded on Wednesday for the establishment, in this town in the center of the country, of a local peanut oil refining plant.
”We often face difficulties when trying to market local oil. There is no local oil refining plant in Touba. We expect the Ministry of Industry and Commerce to set up a factory for artisanal oil makers,” said the president of RASIAT, Ousmane Diakhaté.
He considers palm oil prices high in Touba and believes that refining local oil can help reduce them.
Speaking at a press conference of this association of agri-food professionals, Mr. Diakhaté pointed out that it was difficult to sell products derived from the artisanal processing of peanut seeds, including cakes.
The Touba Agro-food Industry Sector Association also notes difficulties in accessing funding for the peanut seed marketing campaign.
”We are facing enormous difficulties, which prevent us from fully playing our role in this campaign. Only 20 of the 154 crushing units are operating due to lack of sufficient funding,” said Ousmane Diakhaté.
The president of RASIAT, however, welcomed the efforts made by the general director of the National Oilseed Marketing Company of Senegal (SONACOS) in favor of the local agri-food industry.
Mr. Diakhate welcomes the suspension of peanut seed exports by the government.
-”The suspension of exports allowed industrial units to have raw materials and SONACOS to have a large quantity of peanut seeds,” he said.
