The Minister of the Interior declared, during a conference, that the dissolution of this group was “an instrument that must be looked at”.

The Minister of the Interior affirmed, during a conference organized by the Center for Reflection on Internal Security, that the dissolution of the small ultra-left group the Anti-Fascist Young Guard could be a «solution».

Asked about the violence of far-left movements and in particular of the Young Guard, eight members of which were again indicted last summer for anti-Semitic aggression, Bruno Retailleau declared that the “dissolution is an instrument, particularly with the Young Guard, that we must look at”.

In this matter, “we need to go a little further”said the minister, also citing “supporter associations in football”believing that “hooliganism is coming back”. “Simply, we are in a state of law, it is very unpleasant to be rebuffed by the Justice system, we must do it wisely”.

Incitement to Hate

Co-founded by the deputy of Insoumise Rafaël Arnault, himself on the S list (for endangering state security, Editor's note) and targeted by several complaints for violence and death threats, the Young Guard has always assumed its mode of violent action, which the group justifies as a response to that of the far right.

In addition to political will, the law provides for several precise criteria for dissolving an association or a “de facto grouping“. Among these criteria, the public liberties department could cite the fact that the group encourages “has armed demonstrations or violent actions against people or property“, or that it presents “by its military form and organization the character of combat groups or private militias».

In 2021, the Minister of the Interior at the time, Gérald Darmanin, announced the dissolution of the ultra-right group Génération Identitaire, on the grounds that it “incites discrimination, hatred and violence».
