The measure was adopted by the previous government to relieve congestion in general practitioners’ waiting rooms. But Arizona negotiators want to reverse course.
Until now, workers in companies with a minimum of 50 people can be absent from work for one day without having to submit a medical certificate. A measure which is limited to three days per year. But the negotiators of the future federal government want to put an end to this possibility, reveals RTBF.
In spring 2022, this solution was found to cope with the work overload of general practitioners. At the time, employers were opposed to it, given that they are the ones who ultimately pay for this sick day. They could win their case since the future government’s plans include a prevention and reintegration plan for long-term patients which notably mentions this measure.
“As part of a policy to combat absenteeism, the possibility of taking a sick day up to three times a year without a medical certificate will be abolished”says the negotiators’ note.
-In a study carried out by Securex last April, we learned that one-day absences in large companies in Belgium increased by 44.2% in 2023, after the removal of the medical certificate for one day of absence due to disease.
