A man in his twenties was shot dead Monday evening in Calenzana in Balagne (Haute-Corse), we learned from sources close to the case and the prosecution.
“A man in his twenties was discovered dead following shootings in Calenzana around 8 p.m.,” said the public prosecutor of Bastia, Jean-Philippe Navarre, without wanting, for the moment, specify the circumstances of the murder.
“An investigation into intentional homicide by an organized gang was opened and entrusted jointly to the research section of the Corsican gendarmerie and to the interdepartmental direction of the national police (DIPN) of Haute-Corse,” he said.
According to several sources close to the case, the victim, 27 years old, is Dominique Colombani.
-This is the second homicide since the start of the year in Corsica. In 2024, 17 homicides including five settling of scores had been counted in Corsica as well as 16 attempted homicides, according to the latest figures from the prefecture.
In total, between 2016 and 2022, a rate of 3.2 homicides per 100,000 inhabitants was counted in Corse-du-Sud and 3.7 per 100,000 inhabitants over the same period in Haute-Corse, much higher for example in Bouches-du-Rhône, a department strongly affected by the settling of scores, where this rate stood at 2.9 homicides per 100,000 inhabitants over this same period, according to figures communicated to AFP by the prefecture and the Ministry of the Interior.
