The “Ageing 2” project was officially launched in the districts of Kaolack and Guinguinéo, aiming to improve the medical care of elderly people living with HIV. This project began this Monday, January 20 with training for local doctors, led by a team of medical specialists from Dakar, under the direction of Professor Mamadou Koumé, expert in old age and aging.

This program is the result of a tripartite partnership between the State of Senegal, the Fann Clinical Care Research and Training Center (CRFC) and the Initiative/Expertise de . Spanning a three-year period (2024-2027), it focuses on people aged 50 and over with co-morbidities such as diabetes, hepatitis B and C, as well as certain cancers.

For the first time, this project allows this vulnerable population to access comprehensive medical care locally without having to travel to larger hospitals. Around ten doctors and specialists are currently being trained to strengthen their skills through collaboration with colleagues in Dakar, thus guaranteeing the effectiveness of the program.
