Mr. Braih, a former senior executive of the “Polisario” and a close advisor to the former president of the ghostly “Rasd”, in charge of human rights, has been missing since his illegal detention by the security forces in Algeria in 2009. Since then, his family has had no news of him and is still waiting for answers about his fate.
“The continued silence and lack of accountability regarding his case is deeply worrying,” said Moulay Lahcen Naji, president of the IACHR Africa network.
“Despite numerous appeals from various human rights mechanisms to the Algerian state, no response has been provided, and the fate of Khalil Ahmed remains unknown,” he lamented in a statement to MAP.
Mr. Naji strongly urged the international community and regional human rights bodies to intervene to lift the veil on this dramatic affair.
“We call on the Algerian state to reveal the whereabouts and fate of Khalil Ahmed Braih. His family and loved ones deserve to know the truth about his disappearance,” he said, calling on the international community to pressure Algeria to provide information on Mr. Braih and human rights organizations. human rights to continue to advocate for the rights of the disappeared and their families.
-Finally, he said, the network demands that the Algerian state be required to comply with international standards and obligations in terms of human rights.
There are dozens, if not hundreds, of cases like that of Mr. Braih. The CIDH Africa Network reports 84 missing, but other associations count more than 140, Sahrawis who were kidnapped and tortured to death by the leaders of the “polisario” in connivance with the intelligence services Algerians in secret detention centers on Algerian territory.
Carrying the voice of their families, the CIDH Africa Network took part in demonstrations organized on the sidelines of the Congress as well as in a sit-in, held on Friday, in the Garden of the Disappeared, near Geneva, alongside 620 family organizations victims of enforced disappearances around the world and defenders of their cause.
