Third in 2024, Melvin Tchiknavorian improved his performance this Thursday at Reiteralm, finishing second behind the untouchable Florian Wilmsmann. The second podium of his career. Disappointment for the other Tricolores who were unable to enter the final but promises for Youri Duplessis Kergomard, authors of very solid rounds and finally fifth.
After a day off between qualifying and this first race due to the snow that fell on Reiteralm, the Austrian campaign began this Thursday with a first race.
Under the Tyrolean sun, Melvin Tchiknavorian was the Blue to shine the brightest since the skier racing under the colors of Val Thorens took a magnificent second place behind overall leader Florian Wilmsmann. His second podium after his third place…at Reiteralm last year.
For the rest of the French camp, the day was mixed. If his fifth place is perhaps synonymous with regrets, Youri Duplessis-Kergomard will be able to rely on very high level skiing (three successes in four runs but third in the semi-final) to approach this Friday’s race.
Elimination, however, was premature for Terence Tchiknavorian, Nicolas Raffort and Romain Mari. The first two will have another chance this Friday (10:30 a.m.) during the second race, not the Isola 2000 skier replaced by Alexis Jay.
Massacre among the ladies
Among the women, the quarter-finals caused damage since four of the first five in the general classification fell by the wayside: Daniela Maier, Marielle Thompson, Marielle Berger Sabbatel and Talina Gantenbein, victim of a heavy fall.
And it was the Canadian India Sherret who took the opportunity to move closer in the general classification thanks to her third place behind Hanna Schmidt and Fanny Smith. As for Jade Grillet Aubert, she took 7th place.
