Across the NHL: John Tavares on injured reserve

The Toronto Maple Leafs have placed forward John Tavares on injured reserve with a lower body injury, the team announced Thursday.

His state of health will be reassessed on a weekly basis.

The 34-year-old veteran limped off the ice during Wednesday’s practice after taking an awkward fall in the corner.

The forward and former team captain has 20 goals and 42 points in 43 games this season.

He was on pace to score his most goals in a season since his first with the Maple Leafs, when he scored 47 goals in 2018-19.

The Maple Leafs return to action against the New Jersey Devils on Thursday.

Forward Fraser Minten was recalled from the American League to replace Tavares in the lineup.

Stolarz joins us

Elsewhere, Maple Leafs goaltender Anthony Stolarz was back practicing on the ice Thursday, as he continues to recover from a knee injury.

The 30-year-old goalkeeper has not played since December 12.

Stolarz played 17 games with the Leafs this season, posting a 9-5-2 record, a 2.15 goals-against average and a .927 save percentage.

Sebrango recalled to Ottawa

The Ottawa Senators have recalled defenseman Donovan Sebrango from the Belleville Senators of the American Hockey League, TSN’s Claire Hanna reports.

The 23-year-old guard has yet to make his NHL regular season debut. He has three goals and 10 assists in 28 games in the American League this season.

The Ottawa native was selected in the third round (63rd overall) by the Senators in the 2020 draft.
