In 2027, Polestar will launch a compact SUV designed more for Europe, where it will also be produced. It will inevitably compete with the essential Tesla Model Y.

Polestar is in trouble. The Swedish brand only sold 44,851 models in 2024, a low number compared to its range made up of three electric models, and above all down 15% compared to 2023.

The brand has also experienced several major developments in 2024, with the financial disengagement of Volvo, which pushed the label towards Geely, and the appointment of a new boss, Michael Lohscheller, who had previously managed Opel. This has just presented an evolution of Polestar’s strategy.

To reach out to customers, while the manufacturer relied heavily on online sales, Polestar will put the emphasis back on distribution in physical points of sale. The manufacturer has confirmed that the brand will be launched in in 2025, it will even be the priority of the year. But we don’t know more about the launch strategy here.

On the supply side, 2025 will be marked by the presentation and marketing of the large sports sedan 5. Polestar should then launch an exclusive roadster 6 in 2026. Then in 2027 there will be the… Polestar 7.

The manufacturer gave the outlines of this project. It will be a compact SUV, with a premium positioning. Although it will be offered worldwide, it still seems to be particularly aimed at Europe. Moreover, Polestar confirms that production on the Old Continent is planned, which will avoid possible surcharges.

With the Polestar 7, the firm will implement a new platform, which will then be used by the entire brand, a way of reducing costs. Philipp Römers, design director, emphasized that each new Polestar innovates in terms of looks. We remember, for example, the 4 which dares to ignore the rear window. So he says that number 7 will also create buzz.

The 7 will indirectly take over from the Polestar 2, the first 100% electric model, which takes the form of a sedan competing with the Tesla Model 3. There, obviously, the competition will rather be the Model Y.

But Polestar remains modest on sales objectives, with an increase of 30 to 35% over the 2025/2027 period, compared to a low base. Above all, the brand wants to be in the green on the financial side this year. To do this, it wants to make money by selling CO2 credits in Europe within the framework of the CAFE regulations.
