Bilal Eksi, Managing Director of Turkish Airlines (THY), said that the number of weekly flights to Libya, including those to Tripoli, has increased to 8.
Eksi made statements to the press during the ceremony organized on Tuesday to mark the resumption of air links between Istanbul and Benghazi, Libya.
The THY plane left Istanbul airport on Tuesday morning for the flight to Benghazi, a first after 10 years of suspension.
The plane’s passengers landed at Benina International Airport in Benghazi after about 2.5 hours of flight and were welcomed with flowers.
During the ceremony at the airport, THY Managing Director Bilal Eksi said the company was happy to resume flights to Benghazi.
Stating that THY is the airline that serves the most countries and international destinations in the world with 131 countries and 352 destinations on 6 continents, Eksi declared: “As part of our mission to build bridges between populations, countries and continents, we constantly offer our passengers the opportunity to discover new places. We are constantly looking for new destinations around the world, uniting countries and people.
He also said he was happy to connect Benghazi passengers with the rest of the world with flights operating 3 times a week.
-“We have increased our weekly flights in Libya to 8 with flights to Tripoli, which we operate 5 times a week. In the coming period, we will increase both the number of frequencies and the number of destinations we serve “I hope that the flights we have started will contribute to Benghazi, the people of the region and the relations between our countries.”
Eksi also recalled that as the national carrier of Türkiye, the company has one of the youngest fleets in the world with 492 aircraft:

Ambassador Elif Çomoglu Ülgen, Director General for East and South Africa at the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, hoped that the resumption of flights to Benghazi would take place under the best auspices.
Flights between Istanbul and Benghazi will be operated 3 days a week, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.
