Tensions between Turkey and Algeria against a backdrop of support for Kurdish separatists – Telquel.ma

La Türkiye, which considers the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) and the People’s Protection Units (People’s Defense Units – YPG) like terrorist organizations, takes a dim view of the invitation of these groups by Algeria, perceived as a threat to its national security.

Ankara firmly opposes any form of Kurdish autonomy in Syria, and this Algerian approach could be seen as support for these aspirations.

Reports indicate that Kurdish activists, as well as Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg, known for her support of the Kurds, participated in this congress.

The Algerian embassy in Ankara quickly denied officially inviting PKK members, saying its country does not interfere in the internal affairs of other nations and condemns terrorism in all its forms.

However, the documented presence of Kurdish militants in Tindouf raises questions about the consistency of this policy.
