Spain is facing difficulties in its real estate market with a significant surge in rents.
Spain plans to increase taxes on vacation rentals so that they generate income “like a business”, declared Monday the President of the Government Pedro Sanchezwhile residents of the country’s main cities face a soaring rents. “It is not fair that those who own three, four or five short-term rental apartments pay less tax than hotels or employees”said Pedro Sanchez during an event on accessible housing in Madrid.
Tax increases which will necessarily be passed on by owners in the price of seasonal rentals.
The President of the Government also promised stricter measures to fight against fraud linked to these rentals, without going into details. Last month, authorities opened an investigation into Airbnb for not removing thousands of misleading rental offers from its platform.
