Alpes-de-Haute-Provence. Another photovoltaic project hampered in the Lure mountain

At the Lure mountain, in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, environmental defenders who oppose the proliferation of photovoltaic projects have just won a legal victory. The administrative court of appeal canceled on December 31 the clearing permit of the company Engie green on the Seygne woods in Ongles, issued by the prefect in 2020.

She agrees with the association of friends of the Lure mountain (Amilure), which had been dismissed at first instance. 12.7 hectares of natural area were to be cleared for the installation of a photovoltaic plant capable of producing approximately 12.7 gigawatt hours.

The administrative court of appeal visited the site before its decision

“The project will have negative impacts on the wetland notwithstanding the planned compensation measure which remains insufficient” justifies the court. Who also judges that the living environment of the population would be affected by the installation of this photovoltaic plant. Unusually, the Court of Appeal traveled to the site in question on December 5 to form its own opinion, in the presence of all parties.

Engie Green and the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty have two months to possibly appeal to the Court of Cassation. In the meantime, Amilure is pleased to have managed to interrupt “the process of ransacking this rare and remarkable wetland”.

In May 2024, the association had already obtained the cancellation of the protected species exemption granted by the prefecture to the company Boralex for its Cruis power plant.
