Two unknown dead people received funerals in accordance with Muslim rites on Sunday, thanks to the initiative of a group of volunteers from Saint-Louis. This initiative led by Imam Chérif SOW and supported by the Jamiyatou Rahmati Wal Ihsani (JRWI) association, based in Dakar, aims to offer dignified burials to the deceased whose identity remains unknown.
The JRWI association, recognized for its social and spiritual commitment, has already recorded nearly 2,000 burials in accordance with Islamic practices across Senegal.
In Saint-Louis, this initiative has made it possible to bury around fifteen remains since its launch. Without this intervention, these bodies would likely have been left in a mass grave, devoid of recognition.
“I was seduced by the nobility and beauty of JRWI’s gesture. I discussed it with the director of the Saint-Louis regional hospital. After his discussions with the relevant services, we obtained the green light to act,” declared Chérif SOW, contacted by Ndarinfo.
The volunteers of Saint-Louis are committed to perpetuating and expanding their action, aware of the importance of giving dignity and respect to the dead who have not had the chance to be identified.
