Particularly because of a completely failed start to the match, Clermont suffered a heavy defeat on the Bath pitch. The ASM also evolved for almost an hour at fourteen after the exclusion of Giorgi Akhaladze. After this blow to the head, Clermont conceded another try, on an overhand from Russell, concluded by Cokanasiga (21-7, 28th). Belleau in turn reduced the gap for the visitors after occupying the English 22m (21-14, 38th), to keep his team in the match, but the second half promised to be very difficult.
