Hostages in Gaza: Netanyahu tells Biden of “progress”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu discussed ‘progress’ in negotiations with US President Joe Biden to reach an agreement on the release of hostages held in the Gaza Strip, according to a statement from his office.

‘The Prime Minister discussed with the US President the progress in the negotiations for the release of our hostages and briefed him on the mandate he gave to the negotiating team in Doha, aimed at advancing the release of the hostages ‘, the statement said.

A senior American official, for his part, affirmed that Joe Biden spoke with Mr. Netanyahu about the ongoing negotiations to obtain a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of hostages held in the Palestinian territory. This call, the details of which are expected to be communicated later, comes as the US president pushes for such an agreement before Donald Trump returns to the White House on January 20.
