There is nothing like the CES show to take the temperature of TV innovations and new products at the start of the year and the 2025 edition is no exception to the rule.
Every year, visitors come in large numbers to CES in Las Vegas to have a glimpse into the future of tech. And in particular that of TVs, a stand that is always very popular at this innovation show.
This year, it seems that the big brands are doing the spotlight on artificial intelligencewhich should be integrated into the majority of televisions in the coming years. But that’s not all, because most manufacturers have also shown inventiveness to surprise visitors with prototypes that were not necessarily expected. A look at the main new features to remember.
Samsung puffs out its chest with its innovations
Among the TV manufacturers present at CES 2025, there is no doubt that it was Samsung which made the strongest impression. And for good reason: the Korean brand arrived with countless new features for its future ranges of screens and televisions.
Firstly, we were able to discover son prototype d’écran Micro LED extensible « Display » which seems to be an improved version of the famous flex OLEDs. Confusing at first glance, on paper it could stretch depending on the content displayed and should include retractable buttons to meet various uses such as infotainment. Even if – for the moment – it is not than a simple project at the experimental stage which should not see the light of day before 2030.
Furthermore, Samsung revealed “Slidable Flex” touchscreen panels that can extend from 13.1 inches (when closed) to 18.1 inches (when opened). According to the manufacturer, this technology should especially find its place in the automobile sector.
As for its OLED and Neo QLED range, the Seoul manufacturer has also introduced a number of new features such as anti-reflection which arrives on the QLED 8K models, the S95F and the QN90F, raised feet to facilitate the placement of sound bars and One Connect wireless boxes which will be included in particular with the TV S95 and The Frame Pro (we will come back to this). This should reconcile some users with OLED TVs and their current problems.
It is also worth noting access to the Art Store and, of course, the arrival of AI functionalities which will be responsible for improving viewing comfort in many aspects (adjusting brightness, displaying information, translation, etc.). Artificial intelligence is also at the heart of Samsung’s project, which aims to democratize it with its vision of “AI for all”. Even if we remain, for the moment, quite skeptical regarding most of the new features announced.
As for “lifestyle” TVs, Samsung also presented its The Frame Pro screen, which pushes even further his concept of artwork and which is undoubtedly one of the best designer screens on the current market. With this new model encore plus « premium », we will therefore be entitled to:
- increased image quality (Neo QLED instead of simple QLED),
- an increased refresh rate (144 Hz instead of 120 Hz),
- wireless connectivity with the One Connect box,
- “premium” feet,
- a size ranging from 65 to 85 inches (2.16 m diagonal).
The basic version of The Frame TV has changed relatively little compared to its last generation. Although it should be noted the appearance of AI functionalitieswhich were not present on older versions.
And to finish with Samsung, it is worth mentioning to 3D Eclipsa Audio technology which should be integrated into its soundbars and televisions in 2025. To combine a beautiful image with equally pleasant spatialized sound.
Hisense has delusions of grandeur
We can’t really say that Samsung’s competitors have been discreet. And for good reason: the Hisense brand has literally arrived in the city of sin with its very first Micro-LED televisionthe 136MX, which measures 136 inches (3.45 m) diagonally and offers 10,000 nits of brightness. A beautiful baby, as they say in the jargon, and who aligns rather well with his new range of premium products of which the L9Q ultra-short throw video projector is a proud representative.
Hisense also specified that this TV “eliminates the traditional limitations of backlighting and benefits from near infinite dynamic contrast ratiothus offering deep blacks ». But these innovations obviously have a cost: 129 999 € for its release in the second half of 2025. Suffice to say that we will surely refrain from making a credit for such an invasive panel…
Otherwise, Hisense also revealed was dalle Mini-LED 116UX which is a little smaller (2.94 m diagonal, all the same), but which stands out above all thanks to a new backlighting technique offering even richer colors. Its 6.2.2 channel audio system (Dolby Atmos and DTS Virtual X) will also deliver immersive sound, for a price of €25,000 when it is launched at the end of the year.
Panasonic seeks to find a place for itself
A little less prominent at this CES 2025, the manufacturer Panasonic still arrived with some new items in his suitcases. First of all, it presented its new series of premium OLED TVs which do almost everything better than the previous one, without bringing any major innovation. We will nevertheless note the arrival of a calibrated mode for Prime Video films and serieswhich allows you to automatically adjust visual settings for optimal rendering.
There are also some small improvements in the design of the Z95B, but also in the sound with 360 Soundscape Pro technology which promises to “double the width of the soundstage”, if we are to believe the brand’s words, as well as a small 30 W subwoofer on the back of the TV.
And finally, Panasonic intends to establish itself as a benchmark in the Mini-LED TV sector with its W95B range, which is mainly aimed at gamers and movie buffs looking for a high-performance television (very low latency, 144 Hz), with flattering image quality (HDR, Dolby Vision IQ) and equipped with numerous features Smart TV (Alexa, Apple AirPlay and Home compatibility). Let’s now wait to see what price will be displayed for its official release.
TCL confirms Chinese awakening
We have already observed this in recent months: Chinese manufacturers are becoming a real threat to the two behemoths of the sector which are LG and Samsung. And TCL was keen to point this out at this innovation fair, since it arrived with spectacular screens that can reach 98 inches (248 cm) diagonal. Enough to calm the enthusiasm of many competitors.
Furthermore, you should know that its new QD-Mini LED panel is already on sale for $999.99. And in terms of contrasts and colors, let’s admit that TCL hit very hard without exceeding the $1,000 mark. The first copies put on sale are therefore likely to sell like hotcakes.
LG remains in its comfort zone, despite presenting a 6K screen
We probably expected more from LG at this CES 2025, especially after discovering its new projector with an unusual design. But the Korean brand remained relatively sober on the television sidenotably by unveiling its C5 and G5 models who will put AI in the spotlight. It’s difficult to stand out like this, especially when competitors like Samsung arrive with flexible screens and innovations galore.
However, its QNED range is evolving with wireless technology and “without delay”, but also a screen size that reaches 100 inches diagonally. Almost the bare minimum so as not to appear ridiculous next to other brands…
And finally, we still managed to get something in our mouths with its 6K monitor with a design (very) resembling the Apple Studio Display, and which should especially appeal to image professionals (graphic designers, photographers, etc.) thanks to its exceptional reproduction of colors and contrasts. Even if we would obviously have liked to see such innovations on the television side…
