Due to the influx of patients in the emergency room of the Franche-Comté hospital, the management of the establishment decided to activate the white plan this Saturday, January 11.

The HFNC management recommends that users call 15 before going to the emergency room, or 116 117, or contact their attending physician.

“From year to year it gets worse” for the CGT

For its part, the CGT of the hospital denounces, faced with the repetition of the blank plans, “an endless crisis”.

“It is once again the lack of downstream beds, in a period when cases of pulmonary infection by winter viruses are exploding, which creates the problem. Patients wait for hours on stretchers. The doctors, emergency and ward staff are fully committed and doing what they can. To allow the hospitalization of patients who require it, management reopened surgical beds at the beginning of January to accommodate medical patients. And this week, it reopened continuing care beds, the difficulty being finding caregivers to ensure patient care and follow-up. History repeats itself and from year to year it gets worse,” says the CGT, which calls into question “the endless screw of austerity and the financialization of health.”

Reorganized services

The triggering of a blank plan has the effect of reorganizing services to deal with an emergency situation by deprogramming certain non-urgent care, assigning staff from certain services to others, recalling staff from leave and using the health reserve.

Friday January 10, the Ministry of Health announced that nearly 90 French hospitals had triggered a white plan due to the ongoing flu epidemic.

Lung infections

According to the regional epidemiological bulletin from Public Health , the Burgundy-Franche-Comté region entered the epidemic phase on December 12, 2024. In its latest health bulletin, published on January 9, Public Health France mentions a peak for Burgundy Franche-Comté for bronchiolitis which appears to have been affected last week. Flu cases continue to soar. Initially, cases of lung infections were mainly due to Covid-19. Since the end of December, these pathologies, the most serious cases of which require hospitalization, are mainly caused by the flu. On the other hand, cases of acute gastroenteritis are currently few in number.

“Vaccination recommended”

The Regional Health Agency (ARS) repeats its vaccination advice against Covid-19 and flu with a campaign that will last until January 31: “Vaccination against seasonal flu is recommended each year for people aged 65 and more, to people with chronic illnesses, pregnant women, obese people and certain professionals including healthcare professionals. »

Median age 70

People admitted to intensive care for lung infections during this epidemic have a median age of 70 years. 82% have other associated health problems: high blood pressure (45%), heart disease (43%), diabetes (21%).
