In the endless series of Nintendo Switch 2, the day of January 8, 2025 had the effect of a bomb. Who would have thought that a console could be presented at one of the biggest tech shows before its official announcement? After weeks of intensive leaks regarding the design of the console and the features of its new Joy-Cons, the final blow took place in Las Vegas. It is around the aisles of CES 2025 that our colleagues from Numerama made a discovery that soon spread around the world. The manufacturer of gaming accessories Genki presented its Switch 2 branded products on a model of the console and was not stingy with details.
Magnetic controllers, optical sensor, dual USB-C port, wider format… The replica provided by the company ticks all the characteristics mentioned in the numerous leaks and is physically presented to the public for the very first time. On the networks, reactions erupted throughout the day, fervently relaunching the debate on Nintendo’s silence. Genki loudly proclaims that he has a console purchased on the black market, while no Nintendo Direct is yet on the horizon. The Kyoto firm seems determined to announce the console on its own terms. But will Genki’s slippage be forgotten? Viewed by IGNthe manufacturer expresses its concerns following the buzz.
Wanting to do like the others…
“I didn’t expect so much media attention, to be honest” declares the spokesperson for the small company. In fact, the Genki model does not reveal anything that had not already leaked on the web. The teams therefore wanted to follow suit and present their products like everyone else. However, this physical materialization of leaks during a trade show is far from trivial. This only reinforced the authenticity of information that was already difficult to refute.
“Genki admits to having been overwhelmed by his desire to communicate and is worried about the riskss” explains journalist Melinda Davan-Soulas, who at the same time tells us that the company only has 5 people. Lack of experience and delusions of grandeur could well cost the small group dearly. Especially sinceIGN managed to gather more information. The accessories specialist reaffirms the veracity of the dimensions of the console and the magnetic operation of the Joy-Cons, but specifies that he is not aware of the technical specificities. The purpose of the C button also remains a mystery, but Genki explains that manufacturers have long speculated about the possible presence of a camera.
-As if this series of events wasn’t already unusual enough, Nintendo has just announced a console… which is not the Switch 2. Just like the NES, the Game Boy is about to become a LEGO set which will be marketed next October. Hopefully the Switch 2 will be available before then.
