“We wanted to find another way of campaigning. Plus at Charlie’s moment, it’s humor, it’s second degree.” This Thursday, Robert Ménard announced that he was going to remove the posters of his new waste sorting campaign which was so controversial. On this DIY poster, we could see this slogan: “Don’t forget to sort the waste”. Classic. Except that Robert Ménard saw fit to attach the portraits of three men: Russian President Vladimir Putin, North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un and Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, head of state of Iran. And clearly, the humor of the mayor of Béziers did not hit the mark.
The official Iranian agency Irna sent an indignant reaction. “The Director General for Western Europe at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Majid Nili, strongly condemned the action of the mayor of a French city insulting the sacred values and personalities of our country.” The director reportedly “called on the French government on Thursday to take appropriate measures to prevent the repetition of such provocative actions,” added the Irna agency.
The mayor of Béziers did not take long to announce that he was going to remove the posters, which we had seen on certain buses in the city. “Yes, we’re going to remove it, I don’t want to endanger a certain number of people.”
-To justify himself, Robert Ménard pleaded humor. “It annoys us that the sorting is not done. It costs us money. Except that everyone gives a damn about sorting campaigns. People don’t listen to you. We wanted to find another way to campaign,” he said on RTL.
