Six months suspended prison sentence and a 1,000 euro fine were requested, Tuesday January 7, at the criminal court of Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône) against LFI deputy Sébastien Delogu, suspected of “intentional violence” during the blockade of a Marseille high school against pension reform in 2023, reports “Ici Provence”.

The facts date back to March 2023, in front of the Saint-Exupéry high school in Marseille. Sébastien Delogu is suspected of having attacked the assistant principal and a CPE on the sidelines of a demonstration against pension reform. To justify its requisitions, the prosecution advanced “the lack of recognition of the accused, the consequences for the victims dragged through the mud and a need to set an example when an elected official highlights his tricolor scarf”.

Tuesday in court, the LFI deputy explained that he himself had been attacked and denied having kicked the CPE and its deputy principal. Furthermore, the surveillance images from the high school, shown at the hearing, did not make it possible to formally identify the LFI deputy.

The MP also contested the insults but admitted having “raised his voice after seeing a student belted and then dragged to the ground by an adult. I was there to find a consensus. Allow the student demonstrators to be able to tow in front of the high school without blocking it.” The defense even pleaded “a political trial with a media frenzy”. The lawyer for the civil parties, for his part, underlined “the psychological harm suffered by honest and loyal customers whose sense of public service is beyond debate.” The court decision was reserved until February 14.
