“What a great nation that would be.” In a message published this Monday, January 6 on his social network, Donald Trump ruled that it was in Canada's interest to become the “51st state” of the United States. The next President of the United States was reacting to the resignation of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau after nearly a decade in this position.

“If Canada merged with the United States, there would be no tariffs, taxes would drop considerably and Canada would be TOTALLY SAFE from the threat of Russian and Chinese ships constantly surrounding it. Together, what a great nation it would be!!!”, wrote on Truth Social the president-elect, whose victory in the American presidential election was validated this Monday.

At rock bottom in the polls, the Canadian Prime Minister announced his resignation on Monday after weeks of political crisis in the country, recently aggravated by Donald Trump's economic threats. Nearly ten years after coming to power, Justin Trudeau, 53, was under pressure from the opposition but also from many figures in his party, worried about the looming legislative elections.
