The government has successfully stabilized the Kenyan economy and will now focus on implementing key development projects, says President William Ruto.

Over the past two years, the president noted, major development programs have been stalled due to economic difficulties. He, however, promised that this year, Kenyans will witness the implementation of various programs.

“Now that we have stabilized our economy, we can now engage much more vigorously in infrastructure development,” he said.

Despite the challenges, the government has made significant progress in the economy, security, agriculture, healthcare, education and power connectivity, among others.

“I want to tell Kenyans that Kenya is moving forward. We are going to change the destiny of this country,” he added.

President Ruto made the remarks during the Kerio Valley Interfaith Prayer Service in Tot, Elgeyo-Marakwet County.

Present were cabinet secretaries Kipchumba Murkomen (Interior) and Opiyo Wandayi (Energy), governors Wisley Rotich (Elgeyo-Marakwet), Simon Kachapin (West Pokot) and Benjamin Cheboi (Baringo), as well as MPs.

President Ruto recalled that when he came to power just over two years ago, the country faced food shortages which led to rising food prices and public protests.

According to him, due to proper planning and the subsidized fertilizer program, food production has increased, which has reduced the cost of living.

On security, President Ruto said his government’s efforts to repel threats to the country have borne fruit and will continue until everything is secure.

He said that apart from tackling banditry in the Kerio Valley, the government will ensure that health facilities, schools and other social amenities are restored in the area.

He promised that the government would reopen schools that had been closed during the period when the region experienced serious insecurity and banditry.

“In the next three months, all schools must be reopened and all children must return to school,” he said.

Governor Rotich said the newfound peace and stability in the Kerio Valley is unlocking the economic potential of the region.

“This region has never contributed to the country’s economy in the last 40 years due to insecurity,” he noted.

Mr Kachapin, the West Pokot Governor, called on leaders to foster peace and coexistence among the different groups living in the Kerio Valley to ensure lasting harmony.

Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot said the country has made significant progress, adding that the government will continue to implement programs that will transform the lives of the people.

“We are not where we want to be. However, we are not where we were two years ago,” he said.

He called on Kenyans to register for Taifa Care and enjoy its benefits.

Mr. Murkomen praised the efforts made by security agencies to preserve peace and maintain public order.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety of every Kenyan.

Mr Wandayi said the Cabinet strives to assist the President in achieving the country’s development agenda. “We will not be distracted by skeptics,” he concluded.
