In the United States, two days after the New Orleans attack, the FBI finally estimated that the perpetrator probably acted alone. The former soldier came from Texas to carry out his attack. He drove his pickup truck into crowds during New Year's Eve celebrations, fatally mowing down 14 people before being shot dead by police.
According to the first elements of the investigation, the suspect rented the vehicle in Texas on December 30then drove to New Orleans on the 31st. It was on the road that he published several videos, explaining in one of them that he had pledged allegiance to the Islamic State terrorist group. “We found five videos posted on his Facebook account. In the first, he explains that he planned to attack his family and friends, but he worried that the newspapers would not focus on 'the war between the faithful and the infidels'“, explains Christopher Raya, senior FBI official.
Other important information given by investigators: two homemade bombs were found at the scene of the attack, one in the street, near the pickup, and another, two blocks away. They were hidden in coolers abandoned on the sidewalk. FBI says suspect acted alone and that this is an isolated act. Investigators are now asking anyone who knew Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a former US Army soldier, to come forward to authorities.
